What do the admins think about roleplaying a real person, living or dead? Eg. Actors/actresses, authors, politicians, scientists, etc.
I personally think that it is… odd. I’ve never really been one for it. I’ve never done it and I’ve never followed anyone that RPs as a non-fictional character. I have a current partner that at one time RPed as a deceased, non-fictional character and while it is nothing I hold against them, if they were to return to that account, I would not pick up a thread with them.
To me, it gets a little too close to those guys that dress up like Elvis in Vegas for their entire life and then when they get drunk or senile, they assure people that they really are Elvis. No one really knows who these people really are. You are RPing your version of the person so in that respect, you must be sure that you are RPing basically a character.
I would worry that I would offend someone that personally knew the person or the person themselves. I really like Vincent Price. I’ve been a fan my entire life. I adopted a lot of his humor, likes, personal interests, etc. but I would never decide to RP as him because I could see say his daughter or grandchildren taking offence to it and the last thing I would ever want to do is offend someone that means so much to me.
No. Stop it. No
I agree with Cheshire, it’s just a bit creepy. Plus, unlike a fictional character, who you can be reasonably confident about, a real life person, even a long dead historical figure, are going to have flaws and traits that aren’t always well known. Too much of a risk of insulting someone if things go wrong. I’d personally steer clear of playing a real person.
